Marundeeswarar Temple

About Marundeeswarar Temple

Marundeeswarar Temple is a prominent temple situated in Thiruvanmiyur. This temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva in the form of Marundeeswar, the God of Medicines.
The main idol in the sanctum sanctorum is a swayambhu (self formed) lingam. Other than the main idol, smaller shrines of Vigneshwara, Tripurasundari and Muragan are also placed in the temple. During the temple festival the main deity is taken out on a huge chariot. The chariot is then pulled by devotees and taken around the temple. The prasadam offered at the temple is a mixture of sacred ash, milk and water and is believed to cure any kind of ailments.
A must see destination for the whole family, the temple is open daily from 6 am to 12.30 pm and from 4 pm to 8.30.
Though open on all days, the best time to visit the temple is on the festival days like Panguni Brahmmotsavam, Shivrathri, Vinayaka Chaturti, Skanda Sashti and Karthika Deepam.
One can also visit the Ashtalakshmi Temple and ISKCON Temple while visiting the Marundeeswarar Temple. The Thiruvanmiyur beach is also close by.
Marundeeswarar Temple is easily accessible as several buses connect Chennai to Thiruvanmiyur with a frequency of every 15 minutes.
