`Panguni Uthiram’ festival begins at Palani temple
Special abishekam performed to `dwajasthambam’
PALANI: The 10-day `Panguni Uthiram’ festival commenced with the hoisting of the holy flag at Thiruavinankudi Temple near Malai Adivaram here on Monday.
Special abishekam was performed to `dwajasthambam,’ flag post in the outer mandapam. Gurukkals tied `kaapu’ (holy thread) to Lord Muthukumaraswamy and goddesses Sri Valli and Sri Deivanai. Later, the god and goddesses were taken in a procession around the temple and brought to outer prakaram to witness the flag hoisting ceremony. Special pujas were also performed to the holy flag that has symbols of holy lance, cock and peacock, the mounts of Lord Muthukumaraswamy.
With Othuvars singing Thevaram songs and gurukkals chanting holy hymns, the chief gurukkal hoisted the temple flag 9.45 a.m. After flag hoisting, the god and goddesses were mounted on Sapparam for the `ula.’
Water in `Kaavadis’
Hundreds of devotees from the neighbouring districts have starting bringing water from Cauvey River in `Kaavadis’ for abishekam to the main deity on the hill temple.
Te celestial wedding of Sri Murugan with Sri Valliyanaki Amman will be performed between 6 p.m. and 7 p.m. on March 31, and `Panguni Uthiram’ holy car procession at 4 p.m. on April 1. The car procession would start from Padha Vinayagar Temple at Malai Adivaram. The firecracker festival has been organised near Vaiyapuri Temple tank on April 2. Cultural programmes will take place at Kudamuzhukku Mandapam near Malai Adivaram during the festival days.
Tamil Nadu State Transport Corporation will operate additional bus services to the temple town from the neighbouring districts.
