Saga behind this temple:
After the crucial war with the demon Muruga returned to this stala to cool down his emotional vibe. There is also another legend, according to this Muruga disguised himself as a village boy to draw attention of a young beauty Valli. But she didn’t heed to him so, with the help of his brother Ganesha Muruga won the heart of Valli and both ended in wed lock at Tiruttani hill.
The unique feature in this temple is that instead of peacock there is an elephant before the sanctum sanctorum which is believed to be given by the Lord Indra as the dowry to his daughter Deivanai. Another atypical aspect of this temple is that the Lord Muruga is without his staff (vel) to represent his calm state.
